To reduce system size and complexity, the switching matrix is designed for use with synchronous serial formatted data. The synchronizing data clock is provided by the switch matrix and delivered to the individual converters by the clock distribution component of the Converter System Chassis. The converters perform the parallel to serial as well as serial to parallel data conversion. This provides a full‑duplex interface between NTDS Computer and Peripheral equipment channels through the switching matrix.
